Hi guys,
I'm an ex-EVC member that got his money refunded. I am sharing what I know. I assumed that there will be 4 different group of people reading this, so I'll break it down into 4 parts. Read the part that is relevant to you.
Not yet join but thinking/invited to join
I have nothing against EVC, but the services that they are providing is horrendous. They take forever to answer your queries (once you joined that is, they are fast when they want you to sign up), and there is no black and white on any of the promises they made to you. There's no proper channel for communication with them. They do not even have simple basic emails. Everything is through calls. The member cards that they give to you is useless. Their staffs cannot even produce their name cards. It gives the impression that their operation is extremely shady because they are trying to avoid any trace of their activities. They give you the booking confirmation via SMSes.
My advice to you: Do not JOIN this club. You are honestly better off going to Airbnb and Agoda. Less headache, and you get instantaneous response and confirmation. And believe me when I say this, you get BETTER deals with these sites than EVC. Their only catch is their Anantara package but you will have a hard time getting a booking on that. If you really really want to join, fine. But get them to write everything in b&w because the chances of them reneging on them is high. There will be some positive remarks from some people, but I guess this is the intention of this board's admin. At least you get both side of the story and you can form your own judgment fro this.
Current member wanting to exit
My experience with EVC is that, despite their poor service, they will honor your request for refund if you can prove your case. How do you prove them? Show them that you tried to use their services. That means calling their office and try to get some bookings done. At least you attempted. Otherwise they will counter by saying that you haven't even try. By the way, if you just joined, you have about 7 days timeframe to cancel and get your refund. Beyond that, you have to proof your case. Contrary to what they say, you should be able to make bookings despite not getting their membership card. By the time they mailed you the card, it will be 2-3 weeks and your 7 days refund will lapse. Do not believe the rubbish that they say about charging 'cancellation' fees or 'retention' fees and all that. Demand full refund because that is what you should be entitled to. Unless you have used some of their nights, then they should be deducted from the refund. Explain to them rationally, and you have a better chance of getting your refund. You can also group up with other members that also want out of this program, but I do not believe that is necessary.
Now, if they are adamant about not refunding your money, or somehow the negotiations fails, what else can you do? Well, you can lodge a report with the tribunal. The link is ttpm.kpdnkk.gov.my/portal/index.php/en/
You can get the forms from that site and the procedure is clearly provided. This should be your last resort.
Current member happy with EVC
Seriously? Well I beg to differ. But anyway, more power to you.
EVC staff lurking here
Get your act together. If your services is fair, people will join your club. You can pose as members leaving beautiful remarks, but any person with a brain can see through it. The difference between the good and bad remarks is jarring. Also don't even think that it is your competitors' attempt to 'smear' your name. Nobody has the time to do all this. These people are just like me, who felt cheated and wanting to deter those from falling into the same trap. Lastly do not prey on those aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandpas that used their life savings thinking that they will be able to enjoy some nice vacations, when you know they have no avenue of recourse because they do not know how to. Shame on you!!
